Senior Pastor

Pastor Matthew Smith-Laubenstein is dedicated to fostering a vibrant Christian community at Grace Lutheran Church and has served at Grace since 2016.  A graduate of Princeton Theological Seminary and Colgate University, he brings a wealth of theological insight and pastoral experience to his ministry, having served previously in Johnson Creek, Wisconsin and Annapolis, Maryland.

Matthew lives in Libertyville with his wife Kara, a Presbyterian pastor, and their two daughters, who are in middle school and high school. Together, they enjoy exploring the great outdoors through camping and hiking.

In addition to his pastoral duties, Matthew serves on the Governing Council of Condell Hospital, where he is committed to promoting health and wellness in the community. He has a passion for welcoming newcomers and strives to deepen relationships among congregants, encouraging a closer connection with Jesus.
