What Lutheran affiliation is Grace?
Grace Lutheran Church is a member of the ELCA – Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. The ELCA is a church of about 4 millions members who actively participate in God’s work in the world. We believe that we are freed in Christ to serve and love our neighbors. With our hearts, we do God’s work of restoring and reconciling communities in Jesus Christ’s name throughout the world. We are a church that belongs to Christ.
What should I expect during a worship service?
We believe God rejoices in your presence in God’s house, whether you wear your Sunday best or a T-shirt and jeans. So be comfortable! Our services are filled with elements from the Lutheran Book of Worship, contemporary songs and beloved hymns. The Worship Team leads us in song, while an engaging PowerPoint presentation guides us in the progression of the service. Children attend worship with their families and are invited to attend Sunday School following the Children’s Message. Join us in Cafe Grace immediately following worship for sweet treats and good fellowship.
Can I take Communion at Grace?
Yes, of course! You do not need to be a member of Grace, or even Lutheran, to receive the Sacrament of Communion. We recognize that we are all one church baptized and gathered in the name of Jesus Christ, so all are welcome to come to the table. Children who are too young to receive Communion may come forward to receive a blessing.
I would like to know more about First Communion and Confirmation.
First Communion is typically offered in late Winter beginning with 4th grade students following an instructional retreat. For more information, contact Pastor Eric at email@example.com
Confirmation instruction is offered to 7th and 8th grade youth and takes place most Sunday evenings of the school year. Students complete Confirmation in the Fall of their 9th grade year. For more information, contact Pastor Matthew at firstname.lastname@example.org
Do I have to be a church member for my children to attend Children’s Ministry programs?
No – All children are welcome to join in the fun and excitement of our children’s ministry.
What about Baptisms and Weddings?
Our pastors would be happy to speak with you to provide information on baptisms and weddings at Grace. Please indicate your interest on the Get In Touch form or by calling the church office 847-367-7050.
How do I learn more?
Come visit us and experience our worship service and the warmth of our members. If interested you can then join us for one of our Newcomer Classes offered every Fall and Spring. During this 6-week session you will partner with a mentor from the congregation as you learn more about the Christian faith, the Lutheran tradition, and how you can get involved at Grace. These classes are for people that are both new to the faith as well as life-long Christians. At the close of the session we will welcome you to formally become a member of the congregation.
